Mukamuka Munter - Rescheduled, now 21st August 2010Keen on a real off-road run that is worth the bragging rights on the Monday? Do you miss that feeling of the lungs searing while you are gasping for air and the legs screaming with lactic acid while knowing that you are still less than half way to the finish (and there's the rest of the hill to climb).....? The Mukamuka Munter is your kind of race which is kinda cool because it won't be everyone's kind of race. Starting at the mouth of the Orongorongo River, the 29km Mukamuka Munter will take you around the south coast of the North Island, over terrain that your ankles will hate you for and then up the Mukamuka Valley to the South Saddle where the only joy is the fact that we don't make you go to Mt Matthews. From there it's a knee bashing downhill to the Orongorongo River and an exit via the Orongorongo Track to the CatchPool Creek DOC base, the crying shame being that you will be too damn sore to really appreciate how good that last bit of single track is. This is not a race for wimps or mummy's boys (or girls) but we do know a few Mummys that will be up for it. If you belong to a club, it's a chance too for club recognition. Club names will be noted and points collated for the ‘Shoe Clinic Mukamuka Hard Arse Runners Club’ award – club bragging rights for the year. If you are really hard, there's a Trampers Class as well. Same course and same pain except you have to carry a 15kg pack with you (and we will be weighing the packs before and after too!). And there are awards for the Clydesdales and Bantams amongst you. Race date is Saturday 21 August 2010 Race Start will be 8:30am. Registration will start from 6:30am at the CatchPool Creek DOC Base with race briefing at 8:00am. Prizegiving will be held 30 minutes after the last runner / tramper has finished or 2pm – whichever is the earliest. A cutoff of 12 noon will apply at the Mukamuka Valley entrance. Remaining runners will asked to return to the Orongorongo start or will be asked to head out via the South Wairarapa Coast if they have support crew that can pick them up.
