Course description

For Mighty Mites, we want kids to enter, be able to complete the course, work up a real sweat and have fun. The aim is that everyone who enters Mighty Mites can do the entire course. Some will be faster that others but EVERYONE will be able to do it.

So – what is the course like? It is:

  • FLAT
  • NON TECHNICAL
  • A BIT DIRTY (dirt is all good – right??!)
  • ALL DO-ABLE!!!

All races will start at the Barton Road entrance to Trentham Memorial Park. All races will start with a run, followed by the bike ride. We are doing this so that by the time the kids are on their bikes they are well spread out to minimise the risk of crashes and bashes. The courses will involve a single loop of the track so that we can keep track of all the competitors and are designed to be over and done with all inside a short period of time. We what the kids to be sweaty, proud and happy when they finish – not completely exhausted and tired so they are kranky for the whole day!

Because we have access to the fantastic Barton’s Bush area on the day we will use this for the run. The course will weave in and out of the trees and paths. We will look for the muddiest bit of the area for the run to make it real fun so bring along a change of clothes for the kids as they will want it after the race. The course will get longer for the kids as we work through the age groups – but even at the Year 5 & Year 6 level the run will not be more than 2km – good for Mum’s and Dad’s to join in too.

Once the run is done the kids will pick up their bikes and ride a lap around some (Preschool and Year 1 and 2) through to all (Year 5 and 6) of Trentham Memorial Park. By this stage the kids would have spread out so there will be space to ride fast and hard. The ride course will be a mix of tar seal, grass and gravel pathway. It will all be flat with no technical or tricky bits to worry about.

To ensure the safety of all the kids we will have marshals at each of the turns required on the course and we will have roving first aiders and helpers to assist anyone that is having a problem. This is a family-friendly event though so we do encourage parents to follow their kids as they complete the course and help out where needed. Just watch out for other kids running and riding at the same time.
