Mighty Mites is all about participation – but also recognising those boys and girls that with a bit of extra effort, training (and skill) manage to place in the top five. The courses are all flat and achievable with nothing that is really technical for riding or running – BUT they will get the kids working a good sweat up as well as those mums and dads that want to run alongside them.
It’s also about school participation. You think your school is the most active school in Upper Hutt? PROVE IT!!! The school with the most entrants on the day gets to own the ‘Mighty Mites’ cup for a year. To make it fair we will be basing the award for the most active school on the percentage of the school’s roll that enters and competes in the Mighty Mites duathlon.
EVERYONE gets a medal and a certificate. Everyone. The top five boys and the top five girls will get a medal with their placing on it so that they can show that their ‘Might’ was a tad stronger and faster than the other ‘mites’ in their age group.
To make it all the more fairer, we have grouped the ages so that the kids are racing in similar age groups so that there is a real competitive spirit amongst equals. Our categories and distances on the day will be:
- Preschool: 500m run through Barton’s Bush, 2.5km cycle around TMP. Start time 9am
- Year 1&2: 800m run through Barton’s Bush, 2.5km cycle around TMP. Start time 9:45am
- Year 3&4: 1.5km run through Barton’s Bush, 3km cycle around TMP. Start time 10:30am
- Year 5&6: 2km run through Barton’s Bush and TMP, 5km cycle around TMP. Start time 11:15am
